Jeffrey Michael Hayes Contact:
Jeff began accumulating glass of all types from a very young age, but it wasn’t until attending college in Minneapolis that his first Illuminated Glass Sculpture took life.
He was quickly recognized in the Twin Cities as a dynamic & unique Assemblage Artist, at a time when Assemblage Art wasn’t really acknowledged. His innovative creations generated feature articles in local newspapers and several television highlights.
In June of 1997 he participated in the largest art festival in the upper Mid-West, The Stone Arch Festival of the Arts. He was awarded First Place in his media as well as the title, Best New Artist-Twin Cities. Later that year he was the featured artist at the Kellie Rae Theiss Gallery in Minneapolis.
In pursuit of a dream, he traded snow for sandy beaches, left most of his glass collection behind and moved to Kauai, Hawaii. After discovering Austin during a business trip, he realized he had found the perfect place. Austin had everything: culture, diversity, beautiful landscapes and most importantly, a wonderful quality of life. In 2006, he reestablished his design company of 26 years, Habitat Hanalei Interiors, in Austin.
It wasn’t until February 2012 that Jeff was just walking through his home, saw a piece of glass, and instantly saw a completed sculpture in his mind’s eye. That familiar fire ignited and within hours his first piece was completed. The inspiration continues to come from each glass component he selects and today, his Il Vetro Iluminare Collection (The Glowing Glass) has grown to more than 70 pieces.
True to his Italian heritage and living passionately from his heart, Jeff has become well known as a tireless collector and creator. He has an innate sense of the idyllic, alternative purpose in each and every piece of glass he sees. His work is truly one of a kind.
Jeff lives on Lake Travis in Austin with his partner of 21 years and their five dogs. They are home.
